Concerns Over LGBTI Awards

The New Zealand LGBTI Awards was planned to be a awards night to celebrate the rainbow community. Now questions are been raised about the organisation of this event.

Stuff reported that Nine LGBTI organisations have sent a letter to event organisers expressing concern about their sudden arrival in New Zealand and pitch for hard-fought corporate cash. In addition well-known nominees David Farrier, Alison Mau and Lizzie Marvelly have shunned the New Zealand LGBTI Awards – a glitzy $200-a-head black tie event – because of the lack of transparency and engagement. Others have declined award nominations including Rainbow Youth and Mary Haddock-Staniland
